The government has already set Aug 21-23 as the official Eid holidays.Muslims in Bangladesh will celebrate Eid-ul-Azha on Aug 22 as the Zilhaj moon has been sighted.
The announcement came after a meeting of the National Moon-Sighting Committee chaired by Religious Affairs Minister Motiur Rahman at Islamic Foundation’s office in Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on Wednesday.
Zilhaj, the final month of the Arabic calendar, therefore begins on Sunday. Eid-ul-Azha is observed on the tenth day of the month, which means Aug 22.
The government has already set Aug 21-23 as the official Eid holidays.
Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia will observe the festival of sacrifice a day ahead of Bangladesh, that is on Aug 21.
