The holy Hajj, one of the fifth pillars of Islam, will occur on Aug 20 while the Eid-ul-Adha, one of two religious festivals, will be celebrated on Aug 21 in Saudi Arabia.
Usually, Eid-ul-Adha is celebrated in Bangladesh a day after that of Saudi Arabia, making the Eid on Aug 22 here.
The Kingdom’s Supreme Court announced that Aug 12 (Sunday) is the first day of the upcoming Islamic month of Dhu Al-Hajjah for this year (1439 AH), making Aug. 11 (Saturday) the 29th and last day of the month of Dhul Qadah, Arab News reports on Saturday.
Dhu Al-Hajjah is the twelfth and final month in the Islamic calendar, in which the Hajj pilgrimage takes place.
The announcement comes following a Supreme Court session after reviewing the statements made by the courts, the moon sighting committees and a number of witnesses in different regions in the Kingdom.
Bangladesh’ National Moon Sighting Committee is set to sit on Sunday (Aug 11) to determine the date of Eid.
Islamic Foundation Bangladesh has requested people to contact the following numbers if the moon becomes visible any part of Bangladesh on Sunday: 9559493, 9559643, 9555947, 9556407 and 9558337. Fax: 9563397, 9555951.
