National award-winning actress Rani Sarker has passed away while being treated at a Dhaka hospital.
Family members said that she was suffering from cholelithiasis and rheumatic fever as well old age ailments.
She breathed her last in a private hospital around 4am on Saturday, said actor Jayed Khan.
A funeral prayer will be held at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) at 2.15pm following the burial at Dhaka’s Azimpur graveyard, said Khan, the president of Film Actors’ Welfare Association.
Born as Mosammat Amir-un-Nesa Khanam in the southern district of Satkhira, Rani Sarker debuted in films in 1958.
A popular actress of 60s and 70s, Rani featured in numerous Bengali movies, including classics like, “Kacher Deyal”, “Behula” and “Nacher Putul”.
She won the National Film Award in 2016.
