Eid films 2018The local cinema market is in doldrums. The hall owners know the reality very well since the last decade, many halls either closed for good or, were turned into shopping malls.

Several movies are released every month though very few can actually see a profit. On the other hand, with too many implausible plots plus shoddy making, people have lost interest to go to the cinema.
Therefore, big budget films wait for Eid. During holidays people go to the movies to add some spice to their formulaic lives.
If hall owners are lucky then with an Eid movie they can make enough money to sustain the business for the rest of the year.
Keeping Eid films in mind, Bangla Tribune talked to a few hall owners.
We will run, Poramon-2; hopefully, it will prove to be commercially successful, says Hassan, manager of Shyamoli cinema hall.
However, he deplored the dismal condition for the rest of the year, saying that hardly ten quality movies are released in a year.
Abishar cinema hall’s manager, Anwar, says: “we have to spend most of the year grappling with loss. But if we get an Eid film with all the right crowd pulling ingredients, then the loss for the whole year can be off-set.”
Owner of Modhumita cinema hall and president of the Bangladesh Hall Owners’ Association, Iftekharuddin Naushad, said: “we look forward to Eid films to recoup our losses; this Eid, we can’t be optimistic because the film releases clash with the World Cup.”
“We only have to rely on the audience who are not football fans,” hoped Naushad.
Modhumita hall will run Shakib-Bubli acted film, ‘Super hero.”
Five films are being released this Eid: Super Hero (90 halls), Poramon-2 (22halls), Chitagianga poya o Noakhailla maiya (140), Panku Jamai (40) and Komola Rocket (2).
