On Saturday (Dec 22), his mortal remains were taken to Dhaka’s Central Shaheed Minar, where it was kept for an hour till 12pm.

Directors' Guild, Directors Association, Dhaka University, Bangla Academy and many film related organizations paid their respects to the noted film director.

Cultural personalities and activists converged on the area to bid their final farewell to Amjad Hossian.

It was then taken to ATN Bangla offices, Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) and Channel I office.

He will be laid to rest at his village home in Jamalpur as he wished before the death.

The body of Amjad Hossain was brought back home from Bangkok on Friday (Dec 21).

The 76-year-old suffered a stroke in November and was put on life support in a Dhaka hospital.

When his condition improved slightly, the filmmaker was flown to Thailand for better treatment.

The popular actor, scriptwriter, lyricist and filmmaker was born in Jamalpur in 1942.

He entered Dhallywood in 1961 as an actor starring in a film, ‘Harano Din’. Later, he started writing scripts and directing films.

His first movie ‘Khela’ was released in 1967. He worked as an assistant director with veteran filmmaker Zahir Raihan in his most popular feature film, ‘Jibon Theke Neya’.

BANGLATRIBUNE/Nashirul IslamHe came into the limelight with his films named ‘Nayanmoni’, ‘Golapi Ekhon Traine’, ‘Sundori’, `Janmo Theke Jolchhi’, `Dui Poyshar Alta’, ‘Bhat De’, ‘Koshai’ and many others. He was also popular for his playwrights and television dramas.

He won the Bangladesh National Film Awards in three categories, including Best Director, Best Picture and Best Scriptwriter. He also won Bangla Academy Literary Award (2004) and Ekushey Padak (1992).

Hossain is survived by his two sons Sajjad Hossain Dodul and Sohel Arman.
