BFDC in new look with state of the art facilitiesTo save the local film industry from doldrums, Bangladesh Film Development Corporation, BFDC, will be refurbished with new and high tech equipment.
To revive the golden days of cinema in the country, the government has taken a project termed ‘Construction of BFDC Complex’ which was approved at the ECNEC on 2 October last.
The main aim is to save the film industry from the current state of morass.
Reportedly, a variety of technical facilities will be added to the new establishment, including 3-D theatre, laser projector, Dolby sound etc.
The aim is to provide film makers the best technology so films are world class and manage to bring back audience to the halls.
According to source, the government has decided to construct the BFDC building sixty years after it came to being. In 1957, the BFDC began its journey through a bill raised at the then provincial government, which included Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The expected expenditure of the project is Tk. 322 crore 78 lakh, which will be provided from the government’s own fund with 30 June, 2021 set as the completion date of work.
Under the project, a 45802 square feet building will be constructed. In addition, there will be a 73469 square feet shooting floor.
Sate minister for information, Tarana Halim, said: “the film industry was languishing due to the neglect of previous governments.”
The development of the sector is a revolutionary step by the current government which will trigger extensive improvement in the film industry, she added.
