The incident was reported on Sunday (Nov 17) around 9 am, Chittogram Fire Service and Civil Defence Assistant Director Purna Chandra Mutsuddi confirmed.

Four of the victims identified are 43-year-old Annie Barua, rickshaw-puller Nurul Islam, Farzana Aktar and her son Atiqur Rahman.

“So far 17 people in the Patharghata gas pipeline blast have been brought in. The doctors produced seven of them dead,” Chattogram Medical College Hospital police outpost Sub Inspector Alauddin Talukder told Bangla Tribune.

Matsuddi, meanwhile, said that the blast caused a wall of the house to collapse rescue operation was underway.

Manjur Alam, a shop-owner in front of the building says that immediately after the blast, the wall collapsed in front of a local pharmacy.

Janata Pharmacy staff Anupam Ghosh said that he came out to find four people already dead on the road.

Sajal Kanti Pal, a resident in the next building says that the explosion caused their door and a few windows to break-off.

Two separate inquires, one by the police and the other by the Chattogram district administration have been opened over the incident.
