Minister warns Sundarbans robbers of consequence

“Government will uphold the existing peaceful situation at the Sundarbans at any cost. Any robbery will face terrible circumstances,” he said on Friday (Nov 1).

The minister was addressing a programme at the southern district to mark the first anniversary of declaring the mangrove forest bandit-free.

Kamal said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed to look into the well being of the bandits who gave in to the law. They [robbers] will be exempted from all but rape and murder charges.

"The former bandits have returned to regular life and are living with family peacefully," he claimed.

So far, ringleaders and 328 members of as many as 32 gangs surrendered to the law enforcement to quit the robbery since May 31, 2015

On Nov 1, 2018, PM Hasina declared the world heritage site free of robbers.
