Professor Dr Mosatafizur RahmanProfessor Dr Mosatafizur Rahman of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science & Technology University is accused of holding two posts, in flagrant violation of rules.
He is chairman of microbiology at Hajee Mohammad Danesh and dean of veterinary and animal science of Gono Bishwabidyalay in Savar.
University Grants Commission (UGC) officials said: “A teacher of a public university cannot be the dean of a private university.”
From February, 2015 till February, 2018, Dr Rahman was appointed at the Gono Bishwabidyalay and after his lien period ended, was made the chairman of microbiology department of Hajee Danesh.
He applied to be part of Gono Bishwabidyalay on weekends on Feb 28 and the registrar of Hajee Danesh gave him the required permission on the condition that this would not interfere with his duties at Hajee Danesh.
UGC member professor Dr Dil Afroze Begum said: “If a teacher of a public university wants to be a dean at a private one then that person will have to take lien from public university; we only give permission to teach six hours a week.”
Professor Dr Laila Parvin Banu, acting VC of Gono Bishwabidyalay, said: “Once Dr Mostafiz was appointed as dean here and is currently working as a part timer; as a part timer, he cannot work as a dean. We will look into the matter.”
Professor Mustafizar says: “While on lien from Haji Danesh, I worked as dean for Gono Bishwabidyalay but am no longer a dean and teach there with permission from Hajee Danesh.”
“I signed some papers on behalf of the dean of animal science department of Gono Bishwabidyalay as the dean was absent,” he said.
VC Dr Abul Kashem said: “Before my tenure, Dr Mostafizur Rahman, worked on lien at the Gono Bishwabidyalay and joined Hajee Danesh after the lien period ended; he has some unfinished work at Gono Bishwabidyalay and so, works at weekends."
