Child killed over rivalry in Cumilla

Representational imageA 10-year old child was killed in an abandoned ditch over what the family claims is a previous rivalry in Cumilla.
This incident was reported from Cumilla Sadar Upazila’s Durgapur Union on Saturday (Oct 19), confirmed Kotoyali Model police OC Anwarul Haque.
The victim has been identified as , Mehedi Hasan Rifat, a student of class three.
“Initially we are suspecting the child has been choked or sustained heavy injury at the neck,” OC Haque said.
He added that police have arrested one suspect over the incident.
His mother Jesmin Akter said that she called Rifat’s turor as he was late for home and found out he left around 7 PM.
Relatives started to search for him and recovered his body from a ditch behind his home.
His mother said that he was taken to Cumilla Medical College Hospital immediately where the doctors declared him dead.
Jesmin Akter said that a theft took place at her home a few days ago and she suspected some men including one of the same village, Hridoy and pressured them to return her belongings.
She added that her son was killed due to the rivalry over pressuring them to return the belongings.
