At least 30 shops have been gutted in a fire at Chattogram's Jahur Ahmed Hawkers Market.
The fire erupted in the port city's largest hawkers market located close to Kotwali police station around 3:30am on Saturday (Oct 19), said fire service official.
It took more than 2 hours for 15 fire fighting units to tame the flames, said Fire Service Assistant Director Jashim Uddin.
The cause and the extent of damage due to the fire could not be ascertained immediately, he added.
Hawkers Market Merchants Association’s Organisational Secretary Fazlul Amin said, “70 traders have been affected as 30 shops have been completely gutted in the fire.”
