Police gun barrelAn alleged robber has been killed in Laxmipur in what the police described as shootout.

The incident was reported around 2.30am on Saturday (Sept 21) from Shakchar village in the district’s Sadar Upazila, said police.

The deceased has been identified as Arif Hossain, who hailed from the same village, was a CNG-run three wheeler driver. His family claimed he has been missing for the last 4-5 days before the incident took place.

On a tip-off of a robbery in progress, a raid was conducted in the area, said Sadar police OC AKM Azizur Rahman.

“Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the robbers opened fire. They fled when the police members retaliated. Later, bullet-hit Arif was found at the scene and rushed to the Sadar hospital where the doctor declared him dead,” said OC Rahman.

“Two of our men, Sub Inspector Sohrab Hossain, and Constable Shohel Rana had to be given first aid for injuries sustained during the raid,” the OC said before adding, “A firearm, three rounds of ammunition and two knives were seized from the scene.”

The OC claimed that the deceased is a member of a robber gang.

Police said that the body has been kept at Laxmipur Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
