Representational image. Photo/India.comThe medical tests conducted on the woman in Jashore's Sharsha upazila, who was reportedly raped by a sub-inspector (SI) and his informant, have shown evidences of rape.

"However, without a DNA test, we are unable to confirm the identity of the rapists," Jashore General Hospital resident medical officer, Dr Arif Ahmed, told reporters on Thursday.

Dr Arif said that after the woman came to Jashore General Hospital on Tuesday, the doctors conducted medical tests and sent them to the lab for scrutiny. After the tests came back, they confirmed that she had been raped.

"A DNA test is done through the Criminal Investigation Department (CID)", Dr Arif further said.  "It will prove whether the reports contain one or more than one individual's semen."

He added: "We have been asked by the CID to keep the evidences ready."

Meanwhile, police have asked a court for a five-day remand of the three arrested over a case filed in connection with the woman's rape.

The three are: Kamruzzaman, alias Kamrul - the informant of SI Khairul from Sharsha, Abdul Latif from Lakshmanpur area and Abdul Quader. Another anonymous person has also been accused.

However, the name of chief accused SI Khairul, the in-charge of Gorpara police camp, was removed from the case. He has been suspended from his post and attached to the police lines for "investigative reasons".

The victim filed a case against SI Khairul along with Kamrul, on Wednesday morning, accusing them of gang-raping her on Tuesday, after they came to her demanding payment of Tk50,000 to release her husband from police custody.

According to her statement, her husband used to be a drug mule but was now a farmer. On August 25, Khairul came and picked up her husband and later demanded Tk50,000 for his release.

Following her rape, she decided to file a case in this regard. When she went to Jashore General Hospital for medical tests in the morning, reporters in the district came to know of the incident.

Jashore Additional Superintendent of police, Salahuddin Shikder, said: "A three-member probe committee has been formed to investigate the matter. To catch the anonymous accused, we have asked the court to place the three arrested on a five-day remand."
