Six of a family among eight killed in Cumilla road crash

Eight people including six of the same family have been killed and four others injured in a head on collision between a bus and CNG-run auto rickshaw at Cumilla.

The incident was reported on Sunday (Aug 18) from the district's Jamtola under Lalmai Upazila, the auto rickshaw crashed into the bus on Cumilla-Noakhali regional highway, killing five on the spot confirmed Lalmai police OC Badrul Alam Talukder.

The deceased have been identified as Jashim Uddin, 45, his mother Sakina Begum, 70, wife Selina Begum, 40, sons Shipon, 23, Riffat, 8, and daughter Nipu Akhter, 13, the driver Jamal Hossain, 30 and Saimon Hossain, 15.

“A Laksham bound CNG-run autorickshaw collided head-on with a Dhaka bound Tisha Paribahan bus,” said OC Talukder.

He added that the driver and three passengers were killed on the spot while four others died on the way to the hospital.

“The injured bus passengers have been sent to Cumilla Medical College Hospital,” he said.

Meanwhile, Cumilla police Additional Superintendant Abdullah Al Mamun who visited the scene said that the bus veered into the wrong lane to save a microbus when it collided with the auto rickshaw.
