Elite police unit Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested three alleged militants from Chattogram’s Halishahar.
They were arrested on Thursday (Jul 11) after a raid based on a tip off, Narayanganj RAB-11 Additional Superintendant Md Joshim Uddin said in a statement on Friday (Jul 12).
The arrestees are Ms Ashfaq-ur-Rahman alias Arif alias Anik, Md Rony Ahmed alis Rony, 31 and Md Ripon Mondol alias Ripon, 30, who RAB claim are members of banned militant outfit Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
According to RAB they were also in possession of extremism texts, leaflet and a laptop.
The statement said that upon primary investigation, the ‘militants’ revealed they have been involved with JMB activities.
Anik has been involved with the militancy since 2014 and Rony and Ripon joined in 2016 and there are two cases against them under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
