Police have arrested one person over the murder of Rifat Sharif, who was hacked to death to death in broad daylight in front of his wife in Barguna on Wednesday (Jun 26).
Rifat’s father, Dulal Sharif lodged a case with Barguna police (sadar circle), accusing 12 people on Thursday (Jun 27), Barguna Superintendent of Police Maruf Hossain confirmed.
The arrestee is Chandan, who is number four on the list of people who have been accused.
The main accused is Noyon, who the victim’s father claims used to harass Riffat’s wife Minni.
Twenty-five-year-old Rifat was attacked by three people, armed with sharp weapons, around 10am on Wednesday in front of his wife and many onlookers near Barguna Government College.
A video of the incident, captured in a surveillance camera, has gone viral on the social media.
Rifat was rushed to Barguna General Hospital and later moved to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to the injuries around 4pm.
His father, who confirmed that Rifat and Minni were married two months ago, claims that the murder was premeditated.
