MP Liton killing: Ex-JP MP Kader gets life in prison

A court in Gaibandha sentenced former Jatiya Party (JP) MP Abdul Kader Khan to life imprisonment in an arms case filed over the killing of Gaibandha-1 MP Manjurul Islam Liton.

District and Session’s Judge Dilip Kumar Bhowmik handed down the verdict on Tuesday (Jun 11) after examining records and witnesses.

Liton was shot at point blank range by miscreants at his village home at Masterpara in Bamandanga union of Sundarganj upazila on Dec 31, 2016.

He was taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Detectives arrested Abdul Kader Khan, former Jatiya Party MP from Gaibandha-1 constituency, from his residence at Rahman Nagar Ziladarpara in Bogura district town on Feb 21, 2017.

On Feb 26 of the year, he gave a confessional statement before the court under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

Based on the information, police conducted a raid on his house at Pashchim Chhaparhati village in Sundarganj upazila and seized a pistol, a magazine and six bullets.

A case was filed in this connection later.
