Two-year-old among five killed in lightning in Bangladesh

In Cox’s Bazar, death of three people including a minor boy and a Rohingya man have been reported from Ramu and Ukhiya upazilas.
In Ramu, two people were killed, and three others injured as thunderbolt hit them in Tulabagan area around 12pm.
Deceased Fatema Khatun, 15, and Afnan, 2, were the children of Nurul Islam, a resident of the area, said Ramu police station Officer in-Charge Abul Mansur.
In Ukhiya, Abdus Suhkkur, 55, a resident of Camp 5 under Kutupalong Rohingya camp, was killed after being hit by thunderbolt, said camp police outpost in-charge SI Mahmud Morshed.
The bodies have been sent to the state-owned hospital in the district town, police said.
In Khagrachhari, a woman and her son have killed and two others injured when lightning struck them at their home Masterpara area of the district’s Matiranga upazila early Sunday, police said.
The deceased have been identified as Ayesa Khatun, 55, and her son Md Momin, 22.
Police and local sources said the lightning followed by a rainstorm hit them at about 4.30 am when they were inside their house. Both of them died on the spot.
Aleya, 30, and Arafat, 8, daughter and another son of the Ayesa were injured after they were struck by the lightning.
In a separate incident, 55-year-old Razia Kahun sustained injuries after lightning hit her at Khedachara area of the hilly district during the rainstorm.
The injured underwent treatment at the local health complex.
Police recovered the bodies, and will release those after completing formalities, said Matiranga police OC Syed Zakir Hossain.
