A Chattogram court sent Nurul Azim Rony, the former general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League’s (BCL) of the Chittagong metro unit, to jail in an extortion case.
The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Osman Gani passed the order on Monday.
“Roney was in interim bail for four weeks in an extortion case filed by the Principal of Science College Jahed Khan. He was sent back to jail again after a bail plea placed by him was rejected,” Deputy Commissioner of the port city police Nirmalendu Bikash told the Bangla Tribune.
Chattogram Science College Principal Jahed Khan filed an extortion case against Roney on April 3, 2018, at Chawkbazar Police Station.
Mentionable, Rony beat Jahed Khan at his office and a CCTV footage of the incident went viral in social media.
BCL central committee cleared off Roney from his post following the incident.
