JCD leader takes Tk 81m from bank and runs away

Imrul Kayes SumanA local leader of BNP’s student affiliate Jatiyatabadi Chattra Dal (JCD) in Pabna has took over Tk 81 million as loan from a private bank and allegedly ran away.
Imrul Kayes Sumon, who is the president of the district’s Ishwardi Upazila JCD unit, went into hiding after he managed to withdraw Tk 81.2 million as loan from the local branch of Southeast Bank Limited on several occasions, police said.
The bank, however, started a case over the incident.
Mostak Ahmed, manager of the Southeast Bank’s Ishwardi branch, filed the case with the local police on Thursday (Apr 11), Ishwardi police OC Bahauddin Faruki told Bangla Tribune.

According to bank sources, Sumon is a local agent of mobile financial service bKash Limited and a distributor of Unilever Bangladesh Limited. He also owns others establishments including a saw mill and a housing loan business.
Previously, he took Tk 58.9 million as loan from the bank on several occasions.
On Thursday, he withdrew another Tk 22.3 million using his cash credit account, raising the total loan to Tk 81.2 million.
Since then, Sumon allegedly went untraced, said the sources.
Hearing the allegation, bank officials visited Ahmed’s business establishments and found the allegation ’true’.

When contacted to Sumon’s youger brother Shawan, he declined to comment.
Legal action was underway on the matter, said OC Bahauddin.
