An alleged drug peddler has been killed at Meherpur’s Gangni upazila in what the police described as shootout.

The incident was reported around 2.45am on Monday (Mar 18) from the upazila’s Harbhanga village, said police.

The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Budu Ali, who police claimed a listed drug trader.

"A police patrol team was making rounds in the area when they heard gunshots and went to the crime scene along with the locals. We found Budu's bullet-ridden body on the spot and sent him to Gangni Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor declared him dead," said Gangni police OC Harendranath Sarkar.

“1kg of cannabis, 20 bottles of phensedyl and a locally made firearm were seized from the spot,” added Sarkar.
