A newborn baby, who was found at a residential hall for female students of Jahangirnagar University, has died.
The baby died in Savar’s Enam Medical College Hospital around 10pm on Saturday (Mar 16) hours after it was found inside a trunk at the Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall.
The hall authorities rescued the baby from Room 426 around 3pm the same day.
According to the hall sources, students of the nearby rooms heard a baby crying and informed the hall authorities. But, before that, the mother kept the baby into a trunk.
Later, hall authorities rescued the baby after breaking the lock of the trunk and took the baby and the mother to university’s medical center.
The mother was referred to the hospital and released later.
“Family received the student on Sunday morning,” said hall provost Mazibur Rahman.
A four-member probe body headed by residential teacher Labiba Katun Tania has been formed to look into the incident.
“The panel has opened the investigation,” said Rahman said adding it has been asked to report within ten days.
