A soil laden trawler capsized with 22 workers in River Meghna at Munshiganj. The police, river police, fire service, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) coast guard and local administration have been scouring the river since the trawler capsized on Tuesday (Jan 15).
“The rescue mission is being carried out based on the information by the surviving workers,” said Gajaria river police post in charge Mizanur Rahman.
He added that they are yet to locate the trawler or the missing workers and that extra people will be working on the rescue from today.
Meanwhile, BIWTA Chairman Mozammel Hoque said that a team of divers from the Navy will be taking part in the rescue in the evening.
“The BIWTA has been using their technologies to locate the trawler,” said Gazaria UNO Hassan Sadi.
The Narayanganj bound trawler collided with a Chandpur bound ship early on Tuesday and capsized into the river. Only 14 fourteen out of the 34 workers have been able to swim ashore.
