Election Commissioner Rafiqul Islam speaking to the media at Rangpur on Wednesday (Dec 19).The Election Commission has (EC) has warned of taking stringent measures if anyone tries to disrupt law and order at the polling stations.
“It is not our business to see which party the miscreants belong to,” he told the media on Wednesday (Dec 19) at Rangpur.
Responding to queries about the opposition party’s complaints that the election is being held without a level playing field, he said, “In my opinion there should be a level playing field for the voters and we have done everything to ensure that.”
“We are making sure that they can safely cast their franchise. For me that’s the definition of level playing field.
“It’s not our responsibility to ensure a level playing field for any political party but we are trying,” he added.
On a different note, the EC said that the troops have already been deployed and they are already inspecting the polling centers. “They will begin their official election duty from Dec 24.”
Ahmed said that the law enforcers and administration have been instructed to carry out their responsibilities neutrally and that the commission was doing everything in its power to ensure free, fair and credible polls.
