An alleged drug trader was killed in Chuadanga in what the police describe as a shootout.
The incident took place around 3am on Thursday at the district’s Sadar Upazila, said police.
The victim is identified as Abul Bashar Pappu.
“Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid at Ujjalpur Field area in the early hours of Thursday. Sensing the presence of the law enforcing men, some drug peddlers opened fire and in self-defence police had to fire back which triggered the shootout,” said Chuadanga Sadar OC Delwar Hossain.
“Later, Abul Bashar Pappu was found bullet-ridden on the scene and sent to Chaudanga Sadar Hospital where the doctor declared him dead,” he added.
Police recovered four hand bombs, firearms and one sack of narcotics were seized from the spot.
