‘Drug peddler’ killed in Rajshahi ‘shootout’

An alleged drug peddler has been killed in Rajshahi in what police describe as a shootout.
The victim is identified as Alamgir Hossain Alo, 49.
The incident was reported around 3am on Sunday from Moddhochar area of Rajshahi city’s Katakhali Thana, said police.
“Acting on a tip-off, police from detective branch conducted a raid at the area. Sensing the presence of law enforcing men, a group of drug peddler opened fire on them. Police had to fire back which triggered the shootout,” said Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Senior Assistant Commissioner Iftekhar Alam.
“Later, Alo’s bullet ridden body was recovered from the spot and sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where the doctor declared him dead,” Iftekhar Alam added.
Police claimed that Alamgir Hossain Alo was a listed criminal in several cases.
198 bottles of phensedyl and a gun was recovered from the scene.
