NarsingdiTwo police constables and two civilians were injured in Narsingdi Friday as a clash broke out between police and the locals at the Dhaka-Sylhet highway of Shibpur Upazila.
The incident took place a little after 10 am on Friday (Sept 14).
Abul Kalam Azad, OC of Shibpur Model police station said “An argument broke out between the highway police and locals when the former stopped a brick laden trolley.
“During the argument, locals attacked two highway police officers and snatched their weapons. We later recovered the weapons and returned them to the highway police” he added.
Locals claim that the two civilians were shot during the scuffle but the police refuted any such claims saying that they only fired a few blank shots and left the scene upon rescuing the constables.
The injured were first sent to the state owned hospital in the district town of Narsingdi where the doctor in the emergency department corroborated the police’s claim that no one was shot.
They were then taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for better treatment.
