Leather Business (Collected)According to the seasonal traders of Bogra this year the leather market collapsed due to the syndicate of the traders and tannery owners. However, the leaders of the traders denied the ‘syndicate’ and said, ‘None of the professional traders suffered losses.’ They claimed, no actual traders suffered losses due to the price of leather. As, there are many hidden tactics in this business; those who never did this business and involved in it at Eid time suffered losses.

But the seasonal traders complained, in spite of sufficient supply the buying and selling of leather was at a low rate as the price was fixed before. They were affected due to lower market prices than last 10-11 years.
Some small traders of Badurtola and Choksutrapur complained, before this Eid occasion, tannery owner and big traders fixed the price of leather through the syndicate. This time price decreased because the fixed price was lower than the market price. However in Bogra leathers were bought and sold at higher price than the price fixed by the syndicate. Here the cow's leather is sold at Tk55-60 per square feet and that of goat is sold at Tk7-10.
Nirob Hasan from the Sultanganj area of Bogra told that he bought a cow at Tk1 lakh and sold its leather of at Tk1, 800. Likhon Sheikh sold the leather of a cow of Tk65 thousand at Tk1, 400. However last year's price was much higher.
A senior member of Bogra District Leather Business Association Jahangir Bablu said this year price of salt did not increase. But the price of leather was very low. Raw leather price was fixed at Tk40 per square feet. They bought 22 to 30 square feet leather at Tk1500 to Tk1800, and thin leather (cow) at Tk300 to Tk500. Price of each piece of the leather of large goat was Tk70 to Tk90, medium Tk40 to Tk50 and small Tk10 to Tk20 and sheep Tk10. The cost of laborer and salt for each piece of cow-leather is Tk250 and goat-leather is Tk50. So they pay extra 10 Taka for per square feet of leather.
