At least 20 people have been injured during a clash between two factions of the ruling Awami League on the occasion of National Mourning Day in Netrokona.
The incident was reported from districts Purbadhala Upazila on Wednesday noon, said police.
Witnesses say that Local MP Waresat Hussain Belal arranged a rally in front of Upazila’s AL office when another rally was arranged at a shouting distance by Central Awami League Organizing Secretary Ahmad Hossain. During the discussion, the speakers made inflammatory comments to each other which triggered the clash.
According to the local people, Police fired tear shells during the clash to take control over the situation.
At least 20 people were injured during the clash, said police.
Purbadhala Police Super Muhammad Fakhruzzaman Juwel said, “Additional police members have been deployed on the area to avoid further incidents”.
