Shootout
A suspected criminal was killed in an alleged shootout with police at Maheshkhali Upazila in Cox’s Bazar.
The incident took place in the hilly area under Shaplapur union of the Upazila around 11am on Monday, said the OC of Maheshkhali Police Station Pradip Kumar Das.
The victim was identified as Abdul Malek, 35, who was named in eight different cases with police.
Based on information of firing between two groups, a team of police dispatched to the area, the OC said.
Sensing the presence of the lawmen, the armed men fired at them and compelled the police to fight back for self-defence, he added.
Police later found Malek’s body after the ‘goons’ fled from the scene.
Police also recovered five locally made weapons, 40 litres of local wine and 500 tablets of contraband Yaba from the spot.
