Trades among Commonwealth countries would boost up if a free trade platform takes place, said the Minister Tofail Ahmed.
Tofail Ahmed said this while interacting with Commonwealth Secretary General Rt Hon Patricia Scotland QC at his office at the secretariat on Wednesday.
The minister pointed that 53 Commonwealth countries have around 2.4 billion of population traded $600b in 2016. In 2020, the target has been set to $700b which could accelerate in case of a free trade agreement.
Tofail Ahmed also told the Commonwealth Secretary General that Bangladesh is moving fast all the way under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Bangladesh has already graduated to the middle income country from the LDC.
Hailing Bangladesh Prime Minister’s leadership, Patricia Scotland said, "Commonwealth welcomes the development in Bangladesh.
“Bangladesh has a bunch of youth power which must be utilized in proper way”, she further said.
