BGMEA President Siddiqur RahmanThe trade gap between Bangladesh and India needs to be reduced for the greater interest of the two countries, feels president of readymade garment exporters association Siddiqur Rahman.
He made the comment when a group of Indian exporters met him at the BGMEA office on Saturday (July 21).
Siddiqur pointed out that Bangladeshi exporters are facing non-tariff barriers from India.
Lack of port infrastructure, product quality inspection and other non-tariff barriers must be removed, otherwise it would hurt the two-way trade, he said.
Bangladesh imports 50 percent of the readymade garment sector raw material from India while it exports only $279 million worth of products to the neighbouring country, he added.
RMG is the biggest export sector in Bangladesh with a total export of over about $30 billion in a year.
