The price of electricity may also rise for subscribers; after a proposal to coordinate the price at the retail level, distribution agencies have begun giving proposals to raise price. Northern Electric Power Supply Company, NESCA, has already given a proposal to increase the price of power.
Two power companies in Dhaka, DESCO and DPDC, will give price restructuring plans to Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission, BERC, within this week.
The rate of power was raised at the subscriber level on 23 November, 2017; in a letter to the commission, they said that the income from selling power in 2020 may be Tk. 366 billion but the demand will be Tk 452.08 billion, so there will be a Tk 86.08 billion deficit.
MD of DESCO (Dhaka Electric Supply Company), brigadier (retd) Shahid Sarwar, said: “Since PDB has given a proposal to adjust price, we will give a letter to BERC within a week.”
MD of NESCO, Zakiul Alam, said: “We have submitted a proposal to raise price; the rate for subscribers will be increased in alignment with the price raised at the wholesale level.”
Price of electricity was raised on Nov 23, 2013; at that time, 0.35 paise per unit was increased which was implemented in December. In 2015, wholesale rate of power was hiked by 18.12 per cent.
