Dusai Resort goes under the hammer

Dusia Resort and SpaDusia Resort and Spa, owned by the family of former BNP finance minister Saifur Rahman, will be sold by auction as its owning company failed to repay a bank loan of Tk 876 million (apprx. $10.5 million).
Naser Rahman, Managing director of Dusai Resort and Spa and son of late Saifur Rahman, confirmed it on Saturday.
An auction notice was published in a national daily on Jun 5.
The notice said IFIC bank provided a credit to the company and on Mar 31 this year, the total unpaid amount stood at Tk 876 million. It has invited tender from interested parties and those will be opened on Jun 27.
IFIC Principal Branch Manager Shafiuddin Milky told Bangla Tribune, “Dusai Resort is being put up for auction to recover the unpaid loan. The tenders will be opened on Jun 27.”

When contacted, Naser Rahman said, “There was a pressure from the Bangladesh Bank and that’s why the bank held the auction. It will be resolved by next week. It is not worth doing a report on this.”
Built in 2012, the world class 5-star standard resort employs several Bangladeshis, Sri Lankans and Thais.
