Brushing aside concerns over the stock market, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal says there’s nothing wrong with it and that it was in not in a bad condition, reports BSS.
“Capital market is related to the economy of the country. If the economy fares better, then there is no reason to not having a better capital market,” he said on Monday (Apr 22).
His remarks came while speaking to the media after a meeting with the high ups of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), says the state news agency.
He said that the index of the country’s premier bourse earlier rose up to 5,900 from 4,500. Then it came down at 5,300. “It’s not a problem for the stock market.”
Fluctuations were normal and it does not suggest that the capital market was in a bad condition, said Kamal.
Responding to a query on listing multinationals, the minister said that companies can’t be forced to raise capital from the market.
“If any company wishes to come, then it can come and there is nothing to force in this regard,” Kamal was quoted saying.
He cited that the valued investors in the capital market in other countries usually understand better the market than the stock market investors in Bangladesh, according to the BSS report
“If everyone could understand the market well, then there was no need to worry about the index and the stock market,” it quoted Finance Minister Kamal saying.
