Handout photoSummit LNG, a vessel with floating storage and re-gasification unit (FSRU), has arrived in the Bay of Bengal to supply 500 million cubic feet of re-gasified LNG to the national grid every day.

It is now anchored 6 kilometers off the island of Moheshkhali in Cox's Bazar, said Summit Group in a statement.

Gas Transmission Company, GTCL, informs that 100 to 150 million cubic feet of gas will be added to the national grid at the end of the current month.

The terminal will be able to supply 500 million cubic feet of gas daily to the national grid. Currently, the terminal is 6 km into the sea.

Summit has informed that the vessel has been leased from US company, Excelerate. At the moment, it’s carrying LNG from Qatar.

Process has already begun to connect Floating Storage Regasification Unit, FSRU, through pipelines under the sea.

Summit Group chairman, Aziz Khan, says: “Summit is pledged to ensure sustainable development; we have worked in the power sector with dedication and that devotion will be present in supplying energy.”

Summit’s communication department says that in the first phase, 1 lakh 38 thousand cubic feet of gas was brought.

If the weather is favourable and assistance comes from Petrobangla, then LNG can be supplied to the national grid within seven days.

Earlier, in 20 April, 2017, department for energy and minerals and Petrobangla signed an agreement with Summit Group. As per the agreement, Summit will construct the second floating LNG terminal in the country, operate it for 15 years and then hand it over to Petrobangla.

Summit will transform LNG into gas and then supply to Petrobangla which will then be added to the national grid by GTCL.

Last year, on 18 August, LNG was supplied into the national grid for the first time and currently, around 500 million cubic feet of gas is being supplied to the grid.
