Governor calls out to banks for aiding students

Bangladesh Bank Governor Fazle Kabir FILE PHOTOMeritorious students of the remote areas should receive aid from the banks and other financial institutions of the country, said Bangladesh Bank Governor Fazle Kabir.
His remarks came this Saturday (Mar 23), from a programme organized by Shahjalal Islami Bank in the capital’s Officers’ Club.
The Governor further said, “In order to ensure a comprehensive development in the education sector, the banks and other financial institutions should come forward. As education is the key element in producing skilled manpower, every monetary institution should play a role in assisting the impoverished students, alongside government.”
Kabir said this while awarding scholarship checks to some meritorious students.
Akkas Uddin Mollah, Chairman of Shahjalal Islami Bank, chaired the programme, where Engineer Md. Touhidur Rahman, Chairman of Shahjalal Islami Bank Foundation, and Shahidul Islam, Managing Director of the bank, among others, were present.
Thus far, Shahjalal Islami Bank has awarded 500 merit scholarships to multifarious college, medical college and university students in 2018; among which, 160 are male and 140 are female S.S.C. students. Again, 120 male and 80 female H.S.C. students were also awarded the scholarship.
Akkas Uddin Mollah, Chairman of Shahjalal Islami Bank, said, “In order to maintain the continuation of brilliant overseas accomplishments of meritorious students, the government must take more steps.”
