Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) has raised the price of jet fuel.

In the domestic route, airlines will now have to pay Tk 72 for each litre of fuel and in the international route $ 0.68.

BPC gave a letter to the airlines on Wednesday (Mar 6).

In the domestic route, the earlier price per litre was Tk 67 while in the international route, the previous rate was $ 0.62.

BPC changes the price of jet fuel in coordination with the international market.

However, there is a sense of indignation among local airlines since the price of fuel was not lowered when the rate went down in the international market.

With the rise of fuel price, operational cost is increasing and local airlines’ are facing tough competition from foreign companies.

Managing Director of Novoair, M Mofizur Rahman, said, “Since Padma Oil is the only body selling jet fuel, there is a monopoly in the market. They raise price as per their whims which creates problems for us.”
