Representational imageAfter suffering an outage and low pressure for more than 24 hours, gas supply will once again remain suspended in parts of Dhaka for another 12 hours on Tuesday(Feb 19).
“There will be no gas supply from 6pm on Tuesday to 6am on Wednesday (Feb 20) due to the relocation of gas pipelines in the city’s Shabagh intersection to facilitate construction of metro rail project,” said Director (operation) of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited Md Kamruzzaman.
The affected localities are Rampura, Banasree, Shantinaganr, Kakrail, Gulistan, Azimpur, Dhanmondi, Tejgaon and parts of Mirpur areas.
No gas will be supplied to household, commercial, industrial and CNG refuelling stations connections during this period.
“Gas supply is likely to become normal at around 8am on Wednesday,” said Kamruzzaman.
On Saturday (Feb 16), a 24-hours gas outage hit the city and its adjoining area due to maintenance work at the Ashulia gas station.
The Titas is already facing a shortfall of at least 300mmcfd against its demand of around 2,200mmcfd. In Dhaka city alone, the demand is around 1,700mmcfd.
With nearly three million consumers, including 44 power plants, 1,630 captive power producers, and 5,128 industrial units, Titas supplies gas under eight categories in Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions.
The number of Titas’ household users stand at 2.76 million while commercial consumers nearly stand at over 11,700.
