Bhutanese Ambassador in Dhaka Sonam Rabgye meets Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi at the latter’s office on Monday (Feb 4). PIDCommerce Minister Tipu Munshi has urged Bhutan to use the Syedpur Airport for better connectivity, reports BSS.

“If Bhutan uses Syedpur Airport, both the countries could reap a boost in trade and tourism,” he said while Bhutanese Ambassador Sonam Rabgye met him at his secretariat office, said a ministry release.

Requesting the Bhutanese Ambassador to take necessary measures regarding the Syedpur airport, he said Bangladesh and Bhutan have a scope to expand bilateral trade further and it should be capitalized.
Bangladesh exports food, RMG items, pharmaceuticals and a few other products to Bhutan, but imports huge quantity of construction materials that poses a trade deficit for the country.
In fiscal 2017-18, Bangladesh’s export stood at US$4.4 million against the import of US$32.28 million.
Additional secretary Md Shafikul Islam was present during the meeting.
