Filling stations likely to remain closed till Sunday (Dec 30) afternoon on occasion of Election DayFilling stations all across the country are likely to remain closed from morning till afternoon on Election Day.
Petrol pump and CNG station owners have decided keep the stations shut on Dec 30, due to shortage of workers due to polls.
“We did not issue any notice regarding the closing of stations. However, a lot of the owners have let their workers take the day off for votes,” said General Secretary of Bangladesh CNG Filling Station Owner’s Association Farhan Noor.
“The stations will be closed till afternoon but after that they will re-open,” he added.
The Election Commission has banned movement of all vehicles from Dec 29 midnight and as a result there will be no sale of fuel. Moreover, BPC will halt supply of fuel on voting day.
Meanwhile, a few filling stations in the country have already announced that all their operations will be halted on Dec 29 and Dec 30.
“A lot of the filling stations could not harness oil as the banks and oil depots are closed due to 5 consecutive days of government holidays,” said Petrol Pump Owners’ Association President Nazmul Haque.
Given the circumstances there is a shortage of fuel, he added.
