NBR gears up its activities to increase tax net

National Board of RevenueNational Board of Revenue (NBR) is gearing up its various initiatives to bring all taxable persons under tax net for increasing the country’s revenue collection.
They are going to carry out surveys in all city corporations and district and upazila towns to bring the flat owners of the areas under tax net.
This was informed at a recent revenue related review meeting at the NBR headquarters in the city. NBR Chairman M Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan presided over the meeting, reports BSS.
At the meeting, Mosharraf Hossain said NBR is working for making easier the process of paying tax aimed at expanding the tax net.
Talking to BSS, NBR Member (income tax) Zia Uddin Mahmood said NBR has taken different initiatives to increase the tax net. “We have instructed commissioners to expedite tax surveys and broaden tax net,” he added.
Around 64 percent revenue of the Bangladesh government comes from Value Added Tax (VAT), income tax and customs duty. The government has set a target of earning 34 percent revenue from the income tax and 37 percent from VAT in the fiscal 2018-19.
