Tourists galore in Sunderbans for nature, taste of Sultanate historyEvery year, during Eid holidays, local and foreign tourists come to the Sunderbans in search of bio-diversity. This year saw no exception as thousands visited the Shaatgambuj Masjid or the sixty domed mosque, Hazrat Khan Jahan Ali’s shrine, Sunderban resort and Chandramahal in Hakimpur.
The 600 year old mosque is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Elders and children both took rides and the forest guards were overwhelmed to deal with so many visitors.
Acting head of Chadpai Range of the forest department, Howlader Azad, told Bangla Tribune: “we have only eight workers and they are trying their best to give the best service.”
Rezwan Hossain Akash, a visitor of Karamjal, says: “one cannot believe how breathtaking the place is unless s/he comes here.”
The scenery is absolutely mesmerizing, he enthused.
Karamjal features watch tower, salt water crocodiles, Chitra and Maya deer, monkeys and tortoise which face extinction.
Bagerhat custodian of the archeology department, Golam Ferdous, told Bangla Tribune: “many tourists have come due to favourable weather and revenue income is also satisfactory.”
