The telecoms regulator has revoked its order of shutting down mobile networks along the borders with India after two days.
The order was revoked in Wednesday (Jan 1), Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Senior Assistant Director (media) Jakir Hossain Khan told Bangla Tribune.
He said that the operators have been sent an e-mail to restore mobile networks in those areas.
On Dec 20, the operators suspended networks within a kilometre of the borders following a directive by the BTRC.
In the directive to Grameenphone, Teletalk, Robi and Banglalink, the regulator had said network coverage will have to be suspended until further notice “for the sake of the country’s security in the current circumstances”.
Operators closed around 2,000 base transceiver stations (BTSs) soon after the regulator's directive came.
