Primary outline of 5G ready

Representational image. REUTERS5G will start in the country in 2021 and the government is taking necessary measures. The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has already made a primary outline for this and sent it to the post and telecommunication division on Oct 10.

To complete the preparation of the outline, the deadline is Jan 31, 2020. The committee will make a final outline by then. The draft will be ready by end December.

A 13-member committee was formed to introduce 5G technology in Bangladesh. The committee has the BTRC’s commissioner for spectrum department as convener and deputy director of the same department as member secretary. The committee decided to formulate a proposal featuring possible bandwidth.

The government manifesto of the government 2018 pledges to start 5G by 2021-23.

Post and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar added: “We will start 5G by 2021 and it will be spread across the country. This will start in Dhaka first and then sent to district towns by 2023 and to the unions by 2026.”

This is a total eco system which needed to be prepared first.

The main committee had 8 to 9 sub committees and they had been assigned their work, said an official.

They will concentrate on bandwidth, price, economic assessment, time frame.

On Jul 25, 2028, 5G was successfully tested in the country and the speed at that time was 4.17 GBPS.

The 5G summit was arranged by mobile operators Robi and Huawei.
