Bangladesh wins WSIS award for the 5th time

World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) Prize-2018Bangladesh has won the world’s most prestigious award in ICT sector called the “World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) Prize-2018.”

It won the award for the fifth time in a row. Access to Information (a2i) Program of Prime Minister’s Office received the award on behalf of Bangladesh for its innovative “Muktopath” project.

Muktopath (www.muktopaath.gov.bd) is a national-level e-learning platform, which will play an important role in educating and training youths, women, professionals and overseas workers.

Apart from this, a2i and Bangladesh Police were awarded WSIS Prize jointly for “Online Police Clearance Certificate Management System” which was made with the assistance from service innovation fund of a2i and was implemented by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

Last year, a2i had been awarded for four remarkable innovative projects. a2i’s “Multimedia Talking Book” initiative (implemented by YPSA) had won while 3 other projects namely, “Rural Entrepreneurship Model based Telemedicine services” (implemented by Dhaka University), a2i’s “Use of Social Media in Public Service initiative”, “Nothi (e-filing system)” came out as runners-up projects.

Kabir Bin Anwar, project director of the a2i Program and director general (admin) of Prime Minister’s Office received the WSIS award in Geneva, Switzerland, on behalf of Bangladesh.

Policy adviser of a2i Aneer Chowdhury, policy specialist (education innovation) Afzal Hossain, Dr Ramiz Uddin and policy associate Shahnur Sabbir, were present on the occasion, among others.

The award for online police clearance certificate was received by Deputy Inspector General of Police Harun Ur Rashid and Additional Superintendent of Police (ICT) Md Ruhul Amin.
