Cricketer Shakib Al Hasan has urged the students, who took to the city streets for safer roads, to return to the family and focus on the study.
“I sincerely and humbly request all of you to return to your schools and focus on your studies... This movement will be fully successful only when you return safely to your families and studies,” he said in a Facebook post on Friday.
His remarks come as the students’ demonstration on the streets across the country rolled into the sixth day.
Shakib, who leads the Tigers in the Test, expressed his condolence over the death of the two students, who were run over by a Jabal-e-Noor bus in front of the city’s Kurmitola General Hospital on Jul 29.
“I was deeply saddened to hear the heartbreaking news of two young school students - Dia and Abdul Karim- lost their young lives when they were hit by a bus in a needless road accident on Airport road,” reads the post.
But when I saw that their fellow schoolmates and children from schools all over the country immediately raised their voices as one voice to protest and ask the government to bring the offenders to justice and for safer road, said Shakib before adding, “I immediately became really proud of them as an aware citizen of Bangladesh.”

The all-rounder also congratulated the students for raising awareness on safer road safer roads and transport.
