Bangladesh Cricket Board has backtracked from its decision to bar Mustafizur Rahman from playing the franchise leagues as cricket’s governing body in the country gave the green signal to the left-arm paceman to take part in the upcoming Indian Premier League Twenty20.
BCB president Nazmul Hasan had said back in July last year that Mustafizur often gets injured while playing in the franchise leagues, and as a result, misses out on national team duty.
But the BCB has now changed its stance, owing to Mustafizur’s poor run of form with the ball in recent times.
The cricket board believes if the left-arm pacer gets picked in the IPL auction on December 19 in Kolkata, he would get the opportunity to return back to form, informed BCB’s cricket operations committee chairman Akram Khan.
The 24-year old Mustafizur had a series to forget against India recently as he bagged just one wicket in three T20Is with an expensive economy rate of 9.51.
Alongside Mustafizur, opening batsmen Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar, all-rounders Mahmudullah and Mehedi Hasan Miraz and right-arm fast bowler Taskin Ahmed are also part of the IPL auction.
Meanwhile, wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim Wednesday pulled his name out of the IPL auction, surprising many in the country’s cricketing arena.
The players’ registration closed last Saturday with 971 players (713 Indians and 258 overseas cricketers) signing up to be a part for the IPL auction.
A total of 19 capped and 634 uncapped Indian cricketers, 60 uncapped Indians who have played at least one IPL match, 196 capped and 60 uncapped overseas cricketers, and two cricketers from ICC associate country are set to try their luck in the auction of the most followed franchise T20 league around the globe.
