Bangladesh gold-medalist karateist Marzan Akter Priya has been hospitalised after being injured during the team karate semifinal event on Wednesday (Dec 4).
She is out of danger now after treatment, confirmed karate federation general secretary Kyaw Shwe Hla.
Priya suffered injury after being hit below to her ear while playing against a Sri Lankan opponent. She was brought out of the met immediately and taken to Blue Cross Hospital via ambulance.
"She has been taken to the hospital. I just spoke to the manager who is now with Priya. She assured me that Priya is alright now. We, unfortunately, have lost a gold medal as a result of her injury." said the karate general secretary.
The medical in-charge of the Emergency Dr Prajwal Man Shreshtha said, "We are examining her and provide some painkillers because the patient told she feels pain on his head neck. She seemed okay now. But we called neurology specialist for further investigation."
Dr Abhishek Chaturbedi, senior consultant neurosurgeon, inspected the gold medalist. Later ran a city scan and said that there was nothing to be worried about. The doctor will observe for two hours before releasing her.
Women's kumite team comprising Mounjera Borna, Marzan Akter Priya, Humaira Akther Antara and Naima Khatun however managed to beat Sri Lanka by 2-1 but lost to Pakistan by similar margin without the injured Priya.
Priya won Bangladesh's one of the three gold medals in karate on Tuesday (Dec 3).
