Bollywood superstars Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif are set to light the stage on fire in the opening ceremony of the upcoming special edition of the Bangladesh Premier League T20.
To mark the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had set plans to stage a different BPL as compared to previous editions, without involvement of franchises and with a grand opening ceremony.
BPL Governing Council interim chairman Sheikh Sohel said both Salman and Katrina are scheduled to reach Dhaka participate in the opening ceremony at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Dec 8.
“We have confirmed the availability of both Salman and Katrina for the opening ceremony. From Bangladesh, we will have famous singer Mamtaz. There are a few other international names on the list, and we are in discussion. We will share the names once confirmed,” Sohel told the media Sunday (Dec 1).
Sources said Bollywood singers Arajit Singh and Neha Kakkar are in talks regarding their participation in the opening ceremony. The six-hour long ceremony will start at 4pm.
The price for tickets will start at Tk 1,000 and go up to Tk 10,000.
As far as the preparation of the teams is concerned, the majority of the teams are being run by sponsors just for the season. The management has been set with a mix of BCB advised personnel and representative from the sponsor office. It is understood that majority of the teams are still to get into the groove, having planned to start full practice sessions from Dec 8 with the tournament set to begin from Dec 11.
